Olive's First Month

Well, Olive is the cutest baby ever. In her first month, we learned that she loves to bathe (her first bath outside of the hospital was when she was exactly a week old), has incredible neck strength, and is extremely alert. From the second she came into this earth, she used her huge eyes wide open, to see everything around her.

New moms are obsessed with sleep. Because they don't get a lot of it. Olive slept like a normal baby for the first couple of weeks (approx. three), and would wake up every couple of hours. Luckily, I was able to sleep often, and Mom and Sara stayed the first week she was born which helped a lot, and allowed me to get much needed rest. Nights were rough for us all. Olive and I would wake up every few hours...and I would remind myself, "This is only for a few hours...it will be day in a little bit and you can make it through this night." I amazed myself with how patient I would be --but it wasn't hard when I had the cutest reminder of why I was doing it in my arms. We spent many nights laying on the couch with my little Olive on my chest.

Around her third or fourth week, I woke up in the morning in a panic since she had not woke me up in the night. But, I glanced over to the pack n play next to our bed, and she was still sleeping. I felt so rested. It was an amazing feeling. I said to Joey it had been the first time in a really long time I had gotten a good night's sleep. Olive had slept for about 7 hours straight. Ever since then, she typically sleeps through the night. There would be nights she would wake up one or two times, but overall she's a sleeper.

We were able to take her to lots of places, and by the time she was three weeks old, I went back to working part time and she got to go to school with dad a couple times a week. She was a Cougar baby at birth. We would take her all over, and as long as she wasn't in the carseat, she was golden. In the carseat, she would scream and scream...at least for a few weeks.

I finished school before she was born, which allowed me to spend lots of time with our sweet new baby. Not only has she been an amazing sleeper, but she has been a smiler since the day she was born. As long as she isn't tired, you look at her, and she'll smile back at you.

And now...for pictures.
